Middle-class favourite Majestic Wine confirmed today that its name will be added to the long list of retailers to disappear from the high street (well, sort of just off the high street, you know around the back by those other shops. It's got parking...).
Credit must be due for seemingly jumping before it is pushed and Majestic's announcement is full of positivity backed-up by the fact that it claims to be on course to hit its turnover and pre-tax profit figures for the year.
It remains to be seen how many of the 200+ stores will remain open (and now branded as Naked Wines) but with Naked wines sending its own communication to its "Angels" (of which I am one) talking about a trial of a small number of stores later in the year, I wouldn't expect many.
But enough of these trivialities, question on everyone's lips is whether any Naked stores will continue in the same generous vein as Majestic when it comes to tastings.
The Majestic name will disappear, with the whole business being brought under the Naked brand.
